Ayuda, a charming word from the Spanish dialect meaning help, perfectly encompasses what we are all about. Project Ayuda is a non-profit development organisation which found its roots in the minds of some University of Warwick students in 2008. It aspires to push internally displaced refugees in Colombia out of poverty and hardship by helping the affected communities create a sustainable income. We, the team behind Ayuda, source communities in Colombia who produce exquisite hand-made items and link them with ethical retailers in the UK, where a separate project will be run for each community we take on. By easing their access into the UK market, we want to multiply their incomes and make them self-sustainable. We are currently successfully underway with our first project. Our first community is the Embera-Chami Indigenous Community, originally from the Honduras Reserve in the department of Caqueta. We have been marketing their beautiful, handmade jewellery that the women in the community produce. More information about the project is available under the Projects link, where you can also find a catalogue of the jewellery. Please use the rest of the links on this website to learn more about our organisation, our current project: Project Embera and about the grave issue of internal displacement in general. We look forward to your support in making a difference. So come on, lets AYUDA! |
